Community Guidelines

Why We Have Community Guidelines

Our community guidelines establish shared expectations for how we communicate and work together within Indivisible. They are designed to foster respectful, inclusive, and effective engagement while keeping us grounded in Indivisible’s mission: defending democracy, advancing equity, and building progressive power.

By naming our shared values and norms, these guidelines help create a space where everyone can participate fully and thoughtfully. They also provide a common foundation for accountability and repair when challenges or conflicts arise, allowing us to move forward together with trust and purpose.

Respectful and Inclusive Comunication

  • We  encourage open, respectful dialogue. While we may not always agree, we focus on discussing ideas, not attacking individuals. Let’s aim to understand each other rather than just debate

  • This does not include anything that is discriminatory or hate speech against another group. That is not tolerated in the group.

Create an Inclusive Environment

  • We aim to foster a welcoming space for everyone, regardless of political background. We don’t judge others based on past political affiliations, and we treat everyone with dignity and respect, whether they are current or former Republicans, or past Trump supporters.

  • Working towards being more ADA compliant as advocates do come from all backgrounds.

Action Oriented Approach

  • We focus on taking meaningful action to further our cause, supporting one another in shared efforts and responsibilities. Remember we are here to “do something”

Confidentiality and Trust

  • Trust is essential to our community, so we prioritize confidentiality and ensure that personal information is handled with care.

  • We all should learn and practice cybersecurity and safeguard any information we have about each other to protect all from the repressive regime that wants to suppress resistance. Beyond the digital world we need to ask permission before sharing personal information we learn about each other in CFI.

Give Grace to One Another

  • We approach each other with patience and empathy, recognizing that everyone is trying their best.

Representing Indivisible

  • Example: What you post online represents Indivisible

  • As members of this community, we ask that you remain mindful of how you engage online. We strive to maintain a respectful, non-violent presence in all spaces, including social media.

Active Listenting

  • We will listen to each other with generous attention, open minds and with caring hearts.

Commitment to Non-Violence

  • We align with Indivisible Nationals commitment to non-violence and reject any intimidation in all forms.

Fight Against False Narractives, and Strivie for only truth

  • With the abundance of Ai and fake news, we strive to only share the truth. That does not mean we will get it right 100% of time, but we will apologize when it happens.

Approach with Curosity

  • Foster a freedom to ask questions in a safe space. Recognizing not everyone has the same knowledge or walk of life, and giving them the time to improve themselves.

With a variety of communication channels - in person, virtual meetings, email, texts, Signal, and other social media platforms; community agreements or group norms should be respected in all places. There isn’t a perfect recipe, so revisit the agreements and norms from time to time to make them as useful as possible.

Lastly, we are a team all working towards the same goal and conflict is natural.  Your role isn’t to stop conflict -  it’s to guide your group through storming into norming, with compassion, clarity, and courage.
