Call to Action: Washington D.C. Takeover

Updated: Sep 1

Six Republican-led states have deployed additional troops to Washington, D.C., under the pretense of combating “rising crime.” The truth? Crime in D.C. is currently at historic lows.

This isn’t about public safety—it’s a dangerous precedent, a political maneuver to normalize militarized interventions in our cities. We cannot allow this to become the standard.

Let’s stand up and speak out. Tell the leaders of these states: We see what you’re doing, and we won’t stand for it.

Who to Call:

  • Ohio: Mike DeWine (614)644-4357

  • Tennessee: Bill Lee (615) 741-2001

  • Louisiana: Jeff Landry (225) 342-0991

  • Mississippi: Tate Reeves (601) 359-3150

  • South Carolina: Henry McMaster (803) 734-2100=

  • West Virginia: Patrick Morrisey (304) 558-2000

Phone Script

Below is a phone script tailored for a concerned citizen calling state governors to urge the recall of National Guard troops from Washington, D.C. It maintains a respectful tone while emphasizing civic responsibility, constitutional values, and opposition to the misuse of military force for political purposes.

📞 Citizen Phone Script: Urging the Governor to Recall National Guard Troops from D.C.

“Hello, my name is [Your Name], and I’m a resident of [City or County], here in [State]. I’m calling today because I’m deeply concerned about the ongoing militarization of Washington, D.C., and the role your state’s National Guard is playing in it.

Right now, the presence of military force in our nation’s capital feels more like something you’d expect in an authoritarian regime—not a democracy. Seeing military vehicles and armed troops lining the streets of D.C. sends a chilling message, especially when those forces are being used to suppress peaceful protest

The National Guard is meant to protect and serve during emergencies—not to be used as a political weapon. I don’t believe our troops signed up to intimidate fellow Americans or to support any political agenda, especially one that seeks to silence dissent.

I’m asking you to take a stand. President Trump’s rhetoric and actions are dangerous, and deploying state troops to support that kind of leadership undermines our democratic values. It’s time to draw a line. No state should not be complicit in the abuse of power coming out of this administration.

Please recall your National Guard troops from Washington, D.C. This is not their fight, and this is not the America they pledged to serve. We need leaders who will defend the Constitution—not just follow orders from a president who disrespects it.

I’m speaking up because I care about this country—and because I believe your state should lead with integrity. Please do the right thing: bring your troops home and make it clear that [State] stands on the side of democracy, not militarized suppression.

Thank you for your time, and I hope you’ll pass along my message."
