Demand that democrats hold the line

We are in the 36th day of the republicans' shutdown. The longest in history even beating last shut down during the Trump administration. This has meant that some federal workers are going on without pay, essential programs are being paused, shut down or on the verge of being shut down. Some money has been moved around to pay our military, but for how long? ICE continues to get paid. And as we all now SNAP benefits are paused, the Trump administration is withholding funds to provide SNAP benefits and they continue to go back and forth on providing 50% to 0% funding to SNAP beneficiaries, as Trump is wanting to punish the Democrats and withhold swearing in Adelita Grijalva. They are now reducing by 10% our travel, this is already affecting MCO. I for one worry about this, as my father is still in Puerto Rico, and I wonder if he will be able to get back here.

Through this, we have stuck together as a community, as Americans saying NO to the Trump administration and to Project 2025. We are standing together, providing for our neighbors, making sacrifices, boycotting and putting our bodies and spirits at risk to protect our future. And all we ask is that our representatives HOLD THE LINE. There is talk that establishment democrats, Chuck Schumer to be exact, is considering caving in to Trump and his lackeys. And while, none of us want to continue suffering, none of us want our friends and family to go hungry, none of us want federal workers to go without pay, it is not the democrats who are causing this shut down. Republicans have all the power, they can end this shutdown at any moment. They are choosing to stay shut down, and to make people suffer. If Democrats cave in now, the sweeping wins we had in this November 4th, will be shadowed by the cowardice of our democratic leaders. We need to hold the line, we need to hold on to the few bargaining chips that we have, we cannot let the Trump administration take away our health care. Democrats are fighting to make sure that our health care is still here when the budget is passed through, if they cave now, we will lose our ACA subsidies and 50,000 people are set to die yearly if that happens.

While the sacrifices we are making now seem extreme, we have to keep fighting. We need our voices heard. This is a call of action. CALL YOU DEMOCRATIC REPRESENTATIVES; senators and congressmen and DEMAND that they hold the line, the power belongs to we the people. They have ONE JOB, to do what we voted them in to do. To protect the constitution and to make sure that all Americans have the opportunity to have a safe place to live. That includes housing, food, education and healthcare.

Script for Speaking with a Staffer

Hi, my name is [Your Name], and I’m a constituent from [City, ZIP code].

I’m calling to urge [Senator/Representative] [Last Name] to refuse to agree to any budget deal or continuing resolution that threatens or defunds the Affordable Care Act.

The ACA provides essential healthcare protections that millions of Americans rely on. It’s not acceptable for Democrats to compromise on healthcare access or coverage as part of shutdown negotiations.

I’m asking [him/her/them] to stand firm — no deal that undermines the ACA. Please make sure they know their constituents expect them to hold the line.

Thank you for your time and for relaying my message.

Voicemail Version

Hi, my name is [Your Name], and I live in [City, ZIP code].

I’m calling to demand that Democrats refuse to end the government shutdown or approve any budget deal unless the Affordable Care Act is fully protected.

Healthcare is non-negotiable, and voters are paying attention.

Thank you for your time.
